About Castle Hill Atelier

Castle Hill Atelier was founded on the belief that classical art training is not an end in itself, but a strong foundation to support any artistic direction a student chooses to take. Our curriculum follows the time tested progression of the great ateliers: Bargue drawing, cast work, still life, and continuous life drawing and painting. building the eye and hand through disciplined observation so the student can flourish when creating artistically. We teach measurement, structure, value, and colour not as rules to be followed, but as tools to make any artistic vision achievable.

What sets Castle Hill apart from other types of art schools is what happens once that foundation is laid. We don't ask our students to paint like us, or like the masters they have studied. We ask them to use what they've learned to find their own voice. Whether a student's path leads toward realism, abstraction, or something in between, our role is to make sure the craft is never the limiting factor. This is a school built on tradition, but in service of the future each student will create for themselves.
